Professional Portfolio
Goals
Based on my self-assessment, I have set two goals to guide my professional development. These goals align with my strengths while addressing areas where I need improvement to excel as a leader in the veterinary field.
Mentorship Program for Low-Stress Animal Handling
By January 31, 2025, I will develop and implement a mentorship program for new clinic staff to enhance their skills in low-stress animal handling techniques. This initiative builds on my strengths in empathy and teamwork while addressing my weaknesses in communication and confidence. As part of this process, I will work to improve my ability to clearly articulate instructions and foster an environment where staff feel supported and valued. The program will include structured training sessions, practical demonstrations, and ongoing mentorship to ensure measurable improvements in staff proficiency and a reduction in reported animal stress incidents. This goal aligns with the shelter's mission and will significantly contribute to animal welfare and operational efficiency.
Conflict Management Skills
My second goal is to complete a professional development course in conflict management by May 31, 2025, and apply the strategies learned to reduce staff conflict incidents by 20%. This goal focuses on improving my ability to manage interpersonal dynamics and handle difficult conversations effectively. While my conscientiousness and adaptability provide a strong foundation, I must address my weaknesses in assertiveness and influence to lead confidently in challenging situations. Through the course, I will gain tools and techniques to mediate workplace conflicts constructively, ensuring a more harmonious and productive work environment. Success will be measured by completing the course and achieving the targeted reduction in conflict incidents.
